Here are 4 easy steps to becoming a member of the Reynolds Middle School Band:
1. Sign up for band as your first elective when enrolling in classes for next year.
This is the most important step and the easiest to make. When you select Band as your first elective choice, this ensures that you will have a spot in a Beginning Band class. If you did not enroll in Band, no worries. You can attend an "Instrument Placement" event (Step #2) and change your schedule later on. There is no need to decide on an instrument yet; that is the fun that comes next!
2. Attend an "Instrument Placement" event.
This is the time that you sit down with a band director or private instructor and try any instrument that you want! During this session, the directors will guide you through each instrument and make suggestions based on finger dexterity, teeth and facial structure, grades, and experience to ensure that the instrument you are placed on will be the instrument you will be the most successful on. By the end on this short session, you will walk away, in most cases, knowing what instrument is the best fit for you. If you are interested in percussion, there will be a separate assessment date due to the high amount of interest.
3. Rent/purchase the instrument, necessary equipment, and supplies.
We highly recommend that parents choose to sign up for a rent-to-own program through our recommended vendors/music stores for the first year. This will help ensure that the student is responsible and dedicated to their selected instrument before an instrument is purchased. Music stores will also offer instrument repair supplements to cover the costs of any repairs needed while being rented. We highly encourage families take advantage of this during your first year as you are not only learning how to play the instrument, but also how to take care of the instrument. 4. Show up to band class.
Now the adventure begins; this will be the most rewarding time, full of challenges, learning, growing, memories, and fun!
